Hi, I'm Sarah!

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counseor in the state of Florida (MH23924). My main goal for Sprout is to provide children, teens, and young adults with support in this ever-hectic world. I earned my masters and specialist degrees in Mental Health Counseling at the University of Florida, after also completing my undergraduate studies at the University of Florida. Having been a gator since birth, giving back to my community has always been important to me!

My clinical experience has been focused on providing services in the community mental health realm, working with kids, teens, and families. I am so grateful to have been able to provide services in so many different settings, such as school-based services, as well as in the community and virtually.

sessions with me

Firstly, I want to say welcome, and congratulations for making it to this stage of the therapeutic process. I know that starting this journey can be so overwhelming and isolating. A lot of the time, we seek out counseling when we've realized that things have gotten very intense and difficult to manage. It may feel like you are trying to juggle too many things, are struggling to stay afloat, or even have too much on your plate. It can be really difficult to admit that we need some extra support.

My goal is to provide a healing, supportive, and collaborative space where you can feel comfortable facing your growth head on. I want to encourage you to identify your own strengths and positive attributes, while also challenging you to try new skills and techniques. Sometimes sessions with me include discussing some of those surface level stressors (i.e. work, school, being really worried about a gathering with friends). We may dive into the worries of your present self, future fears, and relationships with those around you. Other times, sessions with me involve diving really deep into your past, revealing some of those core beliefs you have or experiences that have shifted your way of being. Sessions may also just include us sharing space when things are difficult and really hard. Regardless of the topic you bring, I hope that I can encourage you to show up bravely in the therapeutic space and know that you are not alone.

I utilize many different evidenced-based approaches to meet your individual needs. These different approaches include cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), as well as trauma-focused CBT. I pull from feminist, person centered, and solutions-focused theories, all while viewing folks from a trauma-informed lens. My hope is to encourage you to recognize your own strength and resiliency through these different approaches. A majority of my clients have been struggling with their experiences related to anxiety, depression, trauma, and/or neurodiverse diagnoses (such as autism or ADHD), on top of their sense of identity, gender expression, or sexuality.

Even though I mainly work with individuals, I believe that so much of who we are is determined by the systems around us. Whether these systems include our biological family unit, friends, romantic partners, teachers, chosen family, communities, co-workers or neighbors. I know that we can be deeply impacted by those close to us, the events that occur in our communities, the ways we are under represented in the media, and the spaces that we show up in.
